Create a Warm & Cozy Home with Antiques at Athens Schoolhouse
“There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.”
– Jane Austen
It’s officially Fall in the Bluegrass and soon the weather will be dropping with the leaves. With great vintage Halloween & seasonal decor, vintage baking & dining sets, furniture, rugs, and artwork, it’s time to celebrate the Autumn season at Athens Antiques! Here’s an idea how to create warmth with a mix of old and new in your décor:
To create a warm and cozy home using antiques, you can combine vintage pieces with soft, inviting elements. Layer Textures and Warm Materials by placing vintage or antique rugs with rich patterns and warm colors (deep reds, burnt oranges, or earthy tones) to anchor your space and add softness. Choose antique wooden pieces with a patina that shows their age. Oak, mahogany, and walnut are great for creating a cozy, timeless feel. Drape wool, velvet, or handwoven throws and pillows on antique sofas and armchairs. Add plump cushions in warm fabrics like linen, suede, or knit.
Create a reading nook with a vintage armchair, an antique floor lamp, and a small side table. Add a stack of old books or a vintage magazine rack on decorative or vintage bookshelf. Whether you have a fireplace or not, you can create a faux fireplace using an antique fireplace mantel with small vintage clocks, brass candlesticks, or old framed photographs. Add a vintage fire screen or log basket for charm. Lighting is the final touch, by using antique lamps with soft, warm bulbs or candles to create a gentle glow. Look for crystal chandeliers, brass sconces, or vintage table lamps with fabric shades.
